OH. MY. GOD. Spanish Pokerap! Now this is old school…in spanish.

But seriously, I can remember the countless hours I spent watching Pokemon as a kid. I had the entire pokerap memorized at one point, and would get it stuck constantly in my head. Epic win.

Age of Conan – The Nipples

Posted in Just For Fun, Review with tags , , on May 29, 2008 by everestwu

There’s something that’s oddly appealing about pixelated nipples that makes everyone act a little differently. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve seen people strip their female characters and just jump around in the middle of Tortage (the beginner’s city). Anyways, here’s a really fun article about AoC and its nipple-loving experience.

Age of Conan

Posted in Review with tags , , on May 28, 2008 by everestwu

I believe Age of Conan is the first MMORPG to be rated M for mature.  It has all of the aspects of a regular MMO, but the reasons it is rated M:

Fatalities and boobies.

I’ll start with fatalities.  What good game doesn’t have them?  In Age of Conan, combat is a little different.  There’s no auto-swinging your sword, you control which direction you swing: Up, Upper left, Upper right, Left, Right, etc.  These can chain into combo moves that can sometimes lead to fatalities, which range from severing a limb, decapitation, or a variety of different uber-powerful spells.  It’s actually not all that bloody, and the graphics are frankly amazing.

But on to the boobies.  Yes, boobies.  The pride and joy of the American teenager and young adult.  Boobies everywhere.  Ok, not really, but there’s definitely a theme of sex in the game.

In case you don’t know, the game is based off a series of fantasy novels written by American author Robert E. Howard.  Now, if you’re a male in the game, you start off as an escaped slave.  Your first quest is to save this chained up woman with pretty large knockers (all the women in the game have size D’s, apparently), and she offers to “thank” you later.

If you pick a female character, the game basically hints that you used to be a sex slave.

Even in the first town you get to, there’s a brothel where very sluttily-voiced characters act, well, like whores.

You kind of get the drift though.

Gameplay-wise, it’s pretty fun.  The quests are ridiculously fun, unlike how WoW was, especially in the sense of the storyline.  Most of the people who you quest for have been raped, pillaged, had their entire family killed, or all of the above.  It makes for a very gloomy but serious atmosphere.

The game definitely gets a 9 out of 10 so far.  I’ll write more reviews as I get farther into the game.  Boobies.

Anime Convention

This weekend, I’m heading to my second Anime convention this year. Sure, there’s a lot of awkward, socially-inept people there, but I always end up finding some cool people amongst the sea of silliness.

My friends and I will most likely be drinking the whole time, which makes it that much more fun. There’s also going to be TWO raves. Good thing I bought my glowsticks early. Time for the untz.

Google

Posted in Just For Fun, Review with tags , on May 22, 2008 by everestwu

Google is frankly the most amazing company ever to exist in the last century.  The sheer propensity of its ability to control, design, invent, organize, manage, and create is dazzling beyond words.

To me, Google is like candy.  Now let me clarify:

Candy exists and has existed for as long as I can remember.  There’s certain kinds of candy that I exclusively eat.  I stuff my face with it once in awhile, but it gets old.  Then *bam*!  There’s this NEW candy that comes out and I’m like “WOAH” and everyone’s like “WOAH” and we all indulge on the candy until our innards rot.

And just about when you’re about to get sick of the new candy…another kind of candy comes out!  (or improvements are made on the old candy)

Ok, so this analogy could use some work, but my point still stands: Google is constantly coming out with new ideas, improving old ideas, buying things that are profitable and managing them like the internet gods they are.

Look:

http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/index.html

I can’t even glance at that page without pissing myself and saying, “holy-fucking-shitballs”.  Even if you’re not a geek like me, you’ll still be amazed at the raw ability for them to have awesome stuff so readibly available to the world.  Oh, and this is even before I say the magic words: It’s free.

On this note, I’m going to copy over Google’s Quote of the Day.  Enjoy!

I’ve had this saved on my computer for quite some time.  No idea where I got it from, but it’s hilarious.

Piano Lessons

Posted in About Me on May 14, 2008 by everestwu

So after contemplating it for awhile, I’ve decided to start giving piano lessons again. If any of you are interested or know anyone who is interested, please let me know :)

Some background:
I’ve been playing piano in a variety of different styles since I was 5, and I’ve had extensive music theory training.

I’m a music minor right now (don’t have enough time for the major, and taking lectured classes is completely different from how well you play the instrument), and have been exploring jazz and composing for about a year and a half.

If you’d like to hear me play and/or would like to schedule a couple free lessons to see if it’s something you would enjoy (and also for me to gauge where you are), don’t hesitate to contact me and ask questions. Pricing will be negotiable.

Summer School

Posted in About Me on May 13, 2008 by everestwu

I just started summer school, and one of the classes I’m taking is basically a jazz history class, which I think will help me a lot.

I never learned about how jazz came to be in its current form, and I definitely don’t know much about the famous artists back in the day. I’m hoping this class will help me to better understand the different styles and themes of that era, that way I can apply it to my own music.

The teacher is really into jazz, and I mean REALLY into it; he used at least 7 different analogies along the lines of how “otherworldly” or how John Coltrane’s music seemed like it’s from “another universe”.  His fervor kind of freaked me out at first, but after a few minutes, I started to appreciate it.  It’s that kind of dedication and love for your art that makes a good teacher and good music.

Other than that, the class seems like it won’t be too difficult. There’s a ton of reading, but from today’s first assignment, I don’t think I’ll mind it.  The 1st book is HUGE, but there’s quite a bit of interesting information in it.  The 2nd book is a collection of 100 articles from the New York Times that are essentially reviews on certain jazz performances.

There’s also about 40-50 minutes of listening to jazz that we have to do a day, which I pretty much do already. We also have 5 essays to write over the course of this class, but, once again, I won’t mind it.

Here’s to hoping I actually enjoy school for a change.

Drums

Posted in About Me on May 10, 2008 by everestwu

I played drums for the first time with Tyler and Ryan yesterday.  We were all surprised at how well I did. Actually, we all kind of freaked out a little bit.  Ryan and Tyler both gave their usual “Goddamnit, stop being so good at everything!” spiel, whereas I sheepishly blamed Rock Band for my ability.

As stupid as that sounds though, I’m pretty sure Rock Band is the reason that I can actually play the drums to a decent degree.  For a lot of the time I was playing, I inadvertently imagined colored bars streaming downwards in my head and hit the appropriate parts of the drum kit.  All the different riffs and rhythms that I had heard while playing Rock Band also helped me a lot.

I guess it all depends on how well you can keep a beat, which I have to be able to do to play piano or games like DDR.

So, anyone looking for a drummer? :D
